FAQ
What should I wear for No-Gi?
Rashguard (short or long sleeve) and grappling shorts without pockets, zippers, or hard drawstring tips. Spats are fine. Bring a mouthguard if you like. Fingernails and toenails trimmed; no jewelry or watches.
How are partners and groups assigned?
We rotate partners and loosely group by belt level and body size. You can always request a lighter/heavier pace or skip a round—just tell the coach.
Will leg-locks be covered? Are heel hooks allowed?
We cover fundamentals of leg entanglements (entries, control, safe finishing mechanics). Heel hooks and reaping are taught with strict control and used in sparring only if both partners agree. Safety first: apply slowly, tap early, and communicate.
How are open mats structured and how long are the rounds?
Expect 5–6 minute rounds with short rests, but the playing time can also be calculated independently for specific pairs. We’ll mix situational rounds (starting from a position) with free rolling. Coaches are on the mat to guide pace and pairings.
Can I register for just one day? Can I switch days later?
Yes—choose Saturday only, Sunday only, or Both days during registration. Switches are possible if spots are available; message us ASAP.
Will my name appear publicly?
Only your first name appears in the public participants table. We use your other details solely to show live counts per category.
Can I bring a friend to watch or film?
Spectators are welcome in designated areas during open mat (space permitting). Short clips are fine; please avoid filming full classes and always ask your partner’s consent. Tag us if you post! #GrapplingRetreat @unione.italiana.jiu.jitsu
Is there parking, and water on site?
There’s adjacent parking, locker rooms with showers. Bring a refillable bottle; we’ll point you to the nearest water source.
Do you have merch?
We’ll have a limited run of shirts (while stocks last).
Do I need a medical certificate?
Recommended/required according to local regulations and our house rules. Always bring an ID.
Can I get a refund?
If you can’t make it, you may transfer your spot to another athlete with prior notice.
Is this beginner‑friendly?
Yes. Clinics cover details for all levels, and open mats are guided.
